Responsible to:
The Steering Committee of the Association - with the President normally being the representative of the Steering Committee.
Main Purpose of Job:
The jobholder will be responsible for the management and operation of the Association and for the development and implementation of policy issues. The purpose of the Association is to protect and promote the best interests of the LPG industry within the European Institutions. The jobholder will also maintain a high profile representative role for the industry and to represent members on an impartial basis.
Nature of Job:
The job will be based in Brussels but travel within the EU will be required. The key role is to interface with policy makers and influencers within the European arena. This will require the development of an effective intelligence network to ensure that threats and opportunities to the industry are identified quickly and accurately. There will also be an ongoing requirement for the jobholder to speak publicly on industry issues and to develop studies, arguments and positions that reflects the ambitions of the European Industry. The role will also entail member relationship activities which will include event management and regular communication activities.
Main Duties/Tasks:
- To be responsible for ensuring that the whole of the Association’s policy work is carried out efficiently and effectively. This includes:-
a) Monitoring the political, economic, legislative and regulatory environments relevant to the industry.
b) Developing policies and proposing policy priorities for the Steering Committee’s consideration.
c) Ensuring communication, co-ordination and compatibility of policy positions throughout the Association membership.
- To be the Association’s principal spokesman with general responsibility for the efficient exercising of the Association’s representational work. This includes:-
a) Ensuring that regular contact is maintained on both a personal basis and by the Association generally with relevant senior European policy makers, MEPs, officials, journalists, regulators and other opinion formers.
b) Ensuring that the Association’s policies and views are well communicated to appropriate target audiences – this will include appropriate media appearances and interviews and addressing relevant conferences and seminars.
c) Ensuring that the Association is represented in other forums as appropriate.
- To ensure that the Association provides a high quality and cost effective service to its members. To also attract new members and retain the support of existing members. Membership communication activity will ensure that members are informed of the Association’s activities and that activities reflect the various interests of the members.
- To ensure that adequate technical standards and Codes of Practice are developed and maintained to provide credibility for the industry and help to provide continued safe and cost effective operation. These standards to be developed in consultation with the appropriate officials where appropriate.
- To promote the industry and the product at every opportunity and when appropriate co-ordinate with the membership to develop marketing initiatives.
- To ensure that all work undertaken by the Association and all Association meetings are undertaken in accordance with European Competition Law.
-To provide information as requested from Association members, their customers, EU officials, the media and when appropriate the general public.
- To be responsible for the finances of the Association, including the preparation of the annual budget, the maintenance of adequate financial controls, and the monitoring and reporting of expenditure against the budget; and to make recommendations on subscription levels for the Steering Committee’s consideration.
- Subject to any guidelines agreed by the Steering Committee – to be responsible for all matters relating to the employment of staff.
-To be responsible for the internal administration of the Association, for ensuring that the Association’s statutes are adhered to and that the Association complies with all relevant laws and regulations.
- To provide and maintain written procedures, where appropriate, for the activities of the Association. To provide and maintain written Health and Safety procedures for all appropriate Association activities.
- To develop with the Steering Committee the forward strategy of the Association and be responsible for the effective implementation of that strategy.
Person Specification
The jobholder must be an enthusiastic and experienced manager with excellent organizational, communication and people management skills. They must also be able to think and act strategically using strong persuasive skills to promote the interests of the industry to all levels of influencers and policy makers. The ability to balance the needs of diverse members and represent their interests will also be core to this senior advocacy role.
